Tual City experienced Inflation of 0.53 percent in January 2023

Abstract


◼ Tual City's Consumer Price Index (CPI) for January 2023 was 115.94, representing 4.87 percent year-over-year (yoy) inflation. Ambon City's year-over-year (yoy) inflation rate was 5.81 percent and its CPI was 116.56.
◼ The city with the highest year-over-year inflation among the 90 CPI cities was Kotabaru, where it was 7.78 percent with a CPI of 119.97, and the lowest was Sorong, where it was 3.23 percent with a CPI of 112.02.
◼ Increases in the majority of the expenditure group indices show that inflation was caused by price increases. The increase in nine expenditure groups, with the Food and Beverage Provider/Restaurant group having the biggest increase of 17.96 percent and the Education expenditure group having the lowest increase of 0.49 percent, suggested a price increase. Health expenditures decreased by 1.83 percent, and Information, Communication, and Financial Services expenditures decreased by 0.83 percent.
◼ Tual City's inflation rate from December 2022 to January 2023 was 0.53 percent on an MTM basis. Ambon City, meanwhile, saw a 0.21 percent decline in inflation.
◼ From December 2022 to January 2023, Tual City's year-to-date (YTD) inflation rate was 0.53 percent. Ambon City, meanwhile, saw a 0.21 percent decline in inflation.
◼ 5 (five) main commodities, namely: Air Transportation (0.7381%), Gasoline (0.6077%), Rice with Side Dishes (0.4304%), Rice (0.3601%), and Anchovies (0.3127%), contributed to inflation year-over-year in Tual City in January 2023.
◼ While five (five) commodities—rice (0.3455%), tuna/ambu-ambu fish (0.2086%), flying fish/benggol fish (0.1622%), house contracts (0.0829%), and mackerel fish/bloated fish/banyar fish/gembolo fish/aso-aso fish (0.0521%)—dominantly contributed to mtm inflation for January 2023 in Tual City.
